INSTRUCTOR:  Susan S. Morris  (Monday afternoons from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.)

4-week class on Monday afternoons from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. September 13, 20, 27 and October 11.

Susan S. Morris, a well known respected artist, who teaches at the Art Institute and GV Rec on a regular basis, has agreed to teach a class of Pen and Ink for the Fine Arts Painting Club.  With Susan as your instructor, she will help you become familiar with this fascinating and timeless medium that has an expression all its own.  You will learn about the different options of materials from the timeless, old fashioned tools, to the new modern pens.  Susan will teach you a variety of strokes and techniques for making textures, and how to create a wide range of values by simply using black on white.  Discover how mark making can be such a soothing thing to your soul and could lead you to consider Pen and Ink as possibly the end, rather than just the beginning of a great piece of art!  Susan will provide lectures, demos and individualized attention, with new challenges each week, all done in a nurturing environment.  DO NOT miss this class!  For more photos of Susan’s works, please check her website:

Costs for this class is $20 per session.

Registration opens September 1.

Table covering:  sufficient size to protect the table.

PAPER:  Good quality drawing paper.  I suggest a Bristol or a Velum texture.  Choose the least amount of texture.  11×17 is a very good size.  It should also be thicker, more substantial paper, weight 80-90 lb.  Also, a Sketch pad or scratch paper would be nice to have.

1.  Sharpie Fine Point, Sharpie Ultra Fine Point, Sharpie Pen Fine

3.  FABER-CASTELL PITT artist pens, XS, S, F, M, B

4.  PRISMACOLOR-FINE LINE MARKER:  These come in a variety of colors.

NOTE:  There are many, many brands that cannot all be listed.  YOU choose.  You may also choose the traditional pen you fill from a bottle of ink, or even a more modern fountain pen that is fillable.

NOTE:  If you plan to do watercolor over your work, remember your pens need to be waterproof as well as permanent.

1.  a drawing board, artist board or a thin piece of Masonite to support your paper

2.  Low tack tape to secure it to the board

3.  Photographs to work from
