Class Description:
Join me for another fun and informative oil painting class, perfect for all levels—including absolute beginners! We will be painting without any toxic solvents! We’ll focus on solid painting techniques, while learning how to work completely solvent-free! I will help you approach the painting process “without fear”, something that has stopped many from successfully practicing their art. You’ll also be gradually introduced to essential artistic fundamentals like composition, value, color mixing, and drawing accuracy. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to truly see your subject like an artist.
The class includes step-by-step demonstrations of basic oil painting methods, which we’ll apply as we create a painting together. The subjects may include landscapes, still life, flowers, animals, people, etc… The format is flexible: you can choose to paint along with me, with a subject I provide, or bring your own reference photos and work more independently. I’ll circulate throughout the class, offering plenty of one-on-one guidance and support to everyone. I always welcome your input! 🙂 Please, let me know if you would like me to focus on subjects, topics or techniques that you need help with.
Supply List: If you do not have supplies or want to try oil painting before buying your own supplies, I can provide them for an additional $15. This will include canvas, paint, brushes, disposable palette, paper, pencil, gloves, and paper towels.
We will be using a limited palette (only 9 colors): a cool and warm version of each primary color, plus some convenience colors:
Vermillion or cadmium red medium
Alizarin crimson permanent
Cadmium yellow medium
Lemon yellow
Pthalo blue
Ultramarine blue
Burnt umber and/or burnt sienna
Titanium white
Ivory black
– canvas or canvas panels, small to medium size: 8”x 10”, 9”x 12” or 11”x 14” is ideal.
– Flats or filberts bristle or bristle synthetic blend brushes: one small (size 2 or 4), one medium (size 6) and one large (size 8 or 10).
– palette knife.

– An apron to protect your clothes
– Rubber gloves to protect your hands
– Small sketchbook for thumbnail sketches and pencil. – Optional: Laptop or printed photos to work from. I will be bringing images as well!
