Class Description:

Discover PanPastels—a fun, innovative, versatile, and extremely forgiving medium that bridges the gap between drawing and painting. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn essential tools, techniques, substrates, fixatives, and how to combine PanPastels with other media. Sunny will demonstrate how to create form with light and shadow, achieve soft gradations and luminous effects, lift or correct pigment with an eraser, and create depth in landscapes. During the month of September, we will explore a variety of subjects, with an emphasis on animals, including both pets and wildlife in their natural environments.

As in previous sessions, Sunny will emphasize fundamental painting concepts, including learning to see your subject like an artist, values, composition, color theory, simplification, edges, and other essential principles that apply to all media. Whether you’re new to PanPastels or already have experience, this class will expand your skills through demonstrations and guided practice. From sketching to finished paintings, you’ll discover the creative possibilities of this unique medium and how it can enhance your artwork in any medium.

All skill levels welcome!

Supply List:

Some or all of these may be found in Michaels, Walmart, Arizona Art Supply, and online stores. Amazon does not ship these well, and they come often shattered. Would not recommend it!

PanPastels set with the following colors: the three primary (red, blue, yellow), a dark brown (burnt Sienna), black and white.

Dick Blick has several good starting sets, and usually good discounted prices like this set with 5:

Or this one that has 10 colors: https://www.dickblick.com/items/panpastel-artists-painting-pastels-set-painting-colors-set-of-10/

If you want the convenience to have a larger, more complete set, these are the 16 colors I recommend. You can fit these in a palette of 20 pans and have room for more.
