Class description:
Come and join in on the fun as you learn ways to plan your painting. The planning process is an important part of a successful painting. In this class you will explore composition possibilities, create value studies, learn to make color choices, and much more. There will be lots of demonstrations, individual help and time to create, grow and make new friends.
Supply list:
If starting out this is the suggested material list for watercolor. This is just a suggested list. You do not have to stick to it for this class.
If you do not use the watercolor medium you can use the medium you enjoy working in.
Everyone will need drawing tools, eraser and sketch book no smaller than 9X12.
Watercolor Materials List
Brushes
Windsor & Newton Sceptre gold or any brand Acrylic short handle ROUND brush no. 12, 8, 6, 4. Winsor& Newton flat 995 series 1in and 1/2in or any brand Acrylic 1 in. watercolor flat. A rigger or liner brush.
Paints
Winsor & Newton Artist Colors – ultramarine blue, Winsor blue red shade, cobalt blue, cadmium red, alizarin crimson, new gamboge, yellow ochre, burnt sienna. Optional colors- hooker’s green, cadmium orange, rose madder genuine, Winsor violet {dioxazine}, cadmium lemon, indigo, sepia, and cerulean blue.
Paper
9X12 or 12X16 Watercolor pad {for exercises}, 2 full sheets of 140# Arches cold press watercolor paper. Other brands can work and are less expensive. Try not to get a student grade brand. If you do not want to stretch your paper you can get a watercolor BLOCK- 9×12 or larger, 140# Arches, cold press. This brand works the best but there are less expensive ones out there.
Other Materials
Large water container, John Pikes or Robert E. Wood pallet {you want a large undivided mixing surface}, sketch book, ebony drawing pencil, magic rub eraser, paper towels, Masking fluid (miskit/frisket), hairdryer, toothbrush, small spray bottle, salt, scrubber brush {a stiff short bristle brush used for lifting watercolor paint}, sponge, masking tape.
