Deepening Your Practice – Advanced Methods and Materials
Dates: October 13 & October 29, 2023 (Two 5 hour sessions)
Times: 10:00 am – 3:30 pm
Skill level: Advanced
This class is intended for advanced students to explore and deepen their practice. The workshop has two 5-hour sessions with group critiques, one-on-one feedback from the instructor, and time to develop and work on your projects during class. There will be homework both before and after the first session so that you will have artwork ready for the critiques. Each participant will select the medium they want to explore during the workshop with some guidance from the instructor. The medium can be one you are proficient in or a new one that you want to explore. The classwork will include 6 sketches, 2 group critiques, 2 feedback sessions, 2 projects, and 2 self-assessments. You will also write an Artist Statement and get feedback on it from Laura. Registration begins September 15th by emailing Laura at lmilkins@gmail.com or calling her at 520-834-3222. She will send you a confirmation and a materials list. Payment of $130.00 is due at the first class. There is much more to this exciting workshop, and it will be discussed with you when you register.
Workshop Schedule and Breakdown:
10:00 – 10:40 Critique: At the beginning of each session, participants will share their work and you will have a group critique/discussion.
10:40 – 12:00 Sketch Time: Complete 3 sketches for the project, these can include pencil drawings, techniques and material explorations, compositional sketches and brainstorming.
12:00 – 12:30 Lunch Break: Relax and eat lunch on the patio if weather permits.
12:30 – 3:30 Work Time: Each participant will work independently on their project.
10:40: – 3:30 Individual Feedback Sessions: Each participant will meet one on one with the instructor for a 15-minute feedback session. During these sessions, you will discuss your progress, give in-process feedback, critique completed assignments, and discuss the next assignment.
Class Fee: $130 payable to the instructor at the first class.
