Description: This class is for anyone who has never tried scratchboard or for
someone who wants to refresh their scratchboard skills. A sharp tool is used to
scratch out a picture on a soft surface. Printmakers used carvings on various
materials along with ink to develop their desired product. Modern scratchboard
uses a hard board covered with porcelain clay and coated with India ink as the
basis of the artwork. Sharp tools such as X-Acto knife, tattoo needles, sandpaper
and fiberglass brushes are used to develop the picture using hatching,
crosshatching and stippling strokes. The contrast of the white showing through
the dark board develops the artwork. The picture can also be colored after
scratching if desired
