Class Description: This class is an introduction to or a refresher course in scratchboard. It is fun, creative and restful to use line strokes to develop an art piece using scratch tools to make small scratches on a black board that is covered with white Kaolin clay then over sprayed with black India ink. Learn how to reveal the subject by scratching out a white image through the black ink by using an X-Acto knife, scratch tool, sandpaper, fiber-brush and more. Learn how to transfer the subject to the board; how to use scratch strokes to bring the picture to life; how to use color to enhance the subject and how to preserve the artwork. Instructions will be given on composition, finding copyright free patterns, use of different tools for making rocks, trees, feathers, fur, etc., plus how to make interesting backgrounds and more. Students will work at their own level with individual instructions from the teacher.
