Class Name: Portraiture – Abstract & Representational Painting
Instructor: Candy Schultheis
Class Dates: January 3, 10, 17 & 24, 2025 – 4 weeks
Day and Time: Fridays from 9:00 am to Noon
Skill Level: Intermediate
Medium: Acrylics or oil – The oils must be non-toxic and must be able to clean up with water. No caustic materials are allowed in the studio.
Member Cost: $100 payable to the teacher. Plus, a $10 supply fee paid to the teacher. All class fees are payable the first day of classes.
Non-member Cost: $100 payable to the teacher in addition to a $40 non-member fee payable to the Quail Creek Fine Arts Painting Club (QCFAPC). Plus, a $10 supply fee paid to the teacher. All class fees are payable on the first day of class.

Description:
If you ever thought you could not do a portraiture, this is the class for you. It’s all
in the techniques. In this class you will be working from 8×10 photos and working
on an 8×10 substrate. We will be going over how to sketch your photo with paint,
what measurements are necessary to get a likeness, how to mix flesh tones, why
values are important and tricks to use when you are stuck. The idea is to paint
one portrait a week to speed up the learning process. Each week we will have
warm up exercises to increase your chances of success. These are “likeness”
portraitures, not photo perfect paintings.
